Authorities in Skinnskatteberg municipality, Västmanland, are conducting an ongoing police investigation into several local politicians and officials suspected of corruption, specifically betrayal of trust against their principal. The case involves allegations that these individuals financially benefited by performing municipal work through their own private companies while concurrently holding significant decision-making roles within the local government.

The investigation, focusing on events from 2023 onwards, centers on potential conflicts of interest and the misuse of municipal assignments. Prosecutor Fredrik Ingblad confirmed that documents have been collected and witnesses interviewed as part of the inquiry. Particularly, the police report references two unnamed suspects connected to irregularities in framework agreements and procurement processes within the municipality.

This probe emerged independently of previous reports by SVT Nyheter Västmanland, which earlier highlighted concerns over Skinnskatteberg politicians billing the municipality for areas where they had political responsibilities. However, no direct links currently connect the ongoing investigation to those prior allegations.

Notably, the police report was not filed by municipal authorities, a fact that has stirred concern among local officials. Jonny Emtin, chairman of the municipal council, expressed unease regarding the complaint's legitimacy and the process behind it. Meanwhile, some key figures like the acting municipal manager have not yet been interviewed as part of the investigation.

This development raises serious questions about governance and accountability in Skinnskatteberg's local government, highlighting potential abuses of power for economic gain via private companies intertwined with political influence.
