Police Identify Suspects Following Assault on 14-Year-Old Färjestad Player by Djurgården Supporters

A deeply disturbing incident unfolded after the SHL match between Färjestad and Djurgården in Karlstad, where a 14-year-old youth hockey player from Färjestad was violently assaulted by a group of 15 to 20 Djurgården supporters. The attack occurred as the boy and his friends were retrieving their jackets behind the arena, shortly after Färjestad’s 5-3 victory in front of a full crowd of 8,250 spectators.

The boy suffered severe head injuries including a fracture and bleeding, necessitating emergency hospitalization and later transfer to Akademiska sjukhuset in Uppsala for further observation and possible surgery. Despite memory lapses about parts of the assault, the boy recalled being overwhelmed and dragged behind the arena before being beaten. Remarkably, his resilience shines through as he expressed more frustration at missing hockey practice than his traumatic experience.

Police investigations are advancing, with two Djurgården supporters now identified as key suspects of interest according to prosecutor Anton Brander. Law enforcement continues to analyze security footage and conduct interviews to hold those responsible accountable.

Håkan Loob, a Färjestad legend residing in Karlstad, voiced his shock and sorrow over the brutal attack. "One is shocked. One thinks of the boy and his family," Loob commented, stressing the need to address such violence seriously to protect the integrity of sports and community safety. With the teams scheduled to meet again soon, vigilance against potential retaliation remains high, though Loob expressed hope the atmosphere will stay positive.

The victim's father, speaking from the hospital, conveyed his fury toward the assailants, highlighting the vulnerability of his young son and the emotional toll this violent event has taken on their family amidst intense national attention. The boy himself was calm when interviewed by police at the hospital and is expected to stay under close medical supervision for the coming week.
