Philharmonic Orchestra Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Grand Concert at Gärdet

On August 10, 2025, the Philharmonic Orchestra hosted its annual concert in Gärdet, part of the lush Nationalstadsparken, to celebrate a significant milestone: its 50th anniversary. Conducted by Alexander Hanson, the event featured guest artist Niklas Strömstedt and drew in thousands of attendees enjoying both classical and popular music under the warm sun.

The program showcased diverse pieces, beginning with August Söderman’s 'Svenskt festspel', followed by works from renowned composers like Ravel, Verdi, and Elgar. A highlight included Strömstedt’s hit 'Om', which resonated well with the audience. The concert culminated joyfully with an all-sing of Carl Michael Bellman's 'Fjäriln vingad syns på Haga'. Audience member Ivetta Irkha, a concert pianist from Kharkiv, Ukraine, remarked on the significance of musical traditions, emphasizing the joy such events brought to her life in Sweden since 1995.

Beyond the music, the event created a family-friendly atmosphere with a 'try-it-out' tent where children were encouraged to engage with instruments like the violin and trombone, facilitated by enthusiastic music students. Food, drinks, and camaraderie among concert-goers enhanced the festive experience. The free concert, organized in collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Dagens Nyheter, underscored its esteemed role in Sweden's cultural landscape, prompting many to reminisce about past performances as they celebrated this iconic orchestra.
