Örebro University Launches International Master's in Precision Nutrition and Personalized Health

Sweden is advancing personalized health education with Örebro University's initiative to develop an international master's program in precision nutrition. This program responds to a significant shift in nutrition and medicine, moving away from generic recommendations to tailored interventions based on individual microbiome, metabolism, and bioinformatics data.

Led by JohnPeter Ganda Mall and a team of seven researchers at the Centre for Food and Health, the two-year project aims to integrate expertise from nutrition, immunology, systems biology, AI, epidemiology, and food science with industry insights. To ensure practical relevance, an industrial steering group is being formed, including representatives from companies and organizations like BioGaia, Sweden Food Arena, Orkla Foods, ILSI Europe, Örebro University Enterprise AB, and the Precision Medicine Centre in Örebro.

Mall emphasized that the collaboration between academia and industry will produce a curriculum equipping students with highly sought-after skills for both scientific careers and the food industry. The development process involves creating course content, ongoing dialogues with the steering group, and strategies for marketing and long-term partnership. The project will conclude with a comprehensive program plan presented for faculty approval.

This master's program represents a significant advancement in Swedish health education, preparing students to meet emerging scientific demands and industry challenges in personalized health interventions.
