Ongoing Investigation After Gävle Shooting Leaves Six Youths Injured

The investigation continues into the shooting incident in Gävle where six young people were injured late Saturday night on Södra Kungsgatan, a busy street known for its bars and shops. The alleged shooter is a 14-year-old boy who was already known to police and social services and was reported missing hours before the event. After the shooting, he sent a disturbing message to his social services caseworker saying, "Check the news hehe."

The police confirmed the shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. and that the victims were shot in the legs. One victim, 17-year-old Elsa, described the chaos, recounting how she crawled to her friends after being shot in both legs, relieved that no joints were hit. Emergency services treated the injured initially at a nearby pub before hospital admission.

Currently, three victims remain hospitalized while two have been discharged, reflecting some improvement in conditions. The suspect faces charges of attempted murder and serious weapons offenses. Due to his age, the case is handled with heightened confidentiality.

Police have conducted numerous witness interviews and plan to continue, maintaining discretion to protect the integrity of the investigation. A mobile police station is to be set up in Gävle for gathering public information and tips, as no new arrests have been announced.
