Oliver Kylington Signs PTO with Carolina Hurricanes for 2025-26 Season

Oliver Kylington, the 28-year-old Swedish defenseman, has inked a Professional Try Out (PTO) contract with the Carolina Hurricanes for the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season. This move signals his attempt to revitalize his career following a tumultuous previous season, which saw him juggle contracts across multiple teams.

Kylington began last season with the Colorado Avalanche, appearing in just 13 games before being traded to the New York Islanders, and subsequently to the Anaheim Ducks, where he played a mere six games at the end of the year. As a free agent over the summer, he is now eager to secure a permanent role within the Hurricanes' roster. His career statistics boast 220 NHL games played since the 2015-16 season, primarily with the Calgary Flames before concluding his tenure there in the 2023-24 season.

The Hurricanes have also been active in the off-season, bolstering their roster with the acquisitions of winger Nikolaj Ehlers from the Winnipeg Jets and defenseman K'Andre Miller from the New York Rangers, while parting ways with veterans like Brent Burns, who has retired, and Dmitrij Orlov, who signed with the San Jose Sharks. Furthermore, Jesper Fast is retiring after missing all of last season due to injury. Despite these changes, the Hurricanes come off a strong playoff finish last spring, having reached the semifinals before being eliminated by the Florida Panthers, who went on to win the championship.
