Norwegian Coach Egil Kristiansen Emerges as Top Candidate to Lead Swedish Ski Team

The Swedish national ski team is undergoing a major coaching overhaul following the departure of national coach Anders Byström, who stepped down after six years amid team dissatisfaction. In addition to Byström, both the women's coach Stefan Thomson and men's coach Anders Högberg have also resigned. The Swedish Ski Federation, led by cross-country head Lars Öberg, is actively searching for new leadership to rebuild and enhance the team.

Egil Kristiansen, a prominent Norwegian coach recently released from his role with the Norwegian biathlon team, has emerged as a leading candidate. Kristiansen is highly regarded for his contributions to Norwegian skiing, particularly his work with celebrated athlete Marit Björgen. The Norwegian Ski Federation praised his decade-long impact on the sport. Kristiansen is slated for interviews with Swedish officials in the coming days to potentially take on the national coach position.

This change follows Sweden's strong Olympic performance, prompting the federation to pursue new strategies under fresh coaching. Kristiansen's extensive experience in both cross-country skiing and biathlon positions him as a strong contender to revitalize the Swedish team's training and competitive success.
