NMR Member Charged with Death Threats Against Leftist Politician Andreas Broström

A member of the neo-Nazi group Nordiska motståndsrörelsen (NMR) has been formally charged for issuing death threats against Andreas Broström, a Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) politician from Sandviken. The threats reportedly came in October of the previous year through phone calls, SMS, and Facebook messages shortly after Broström publicly opposed the government's repatriation policy via a Facebook post.

Broström described the impact of the threats as substantial, saying, "It really affected my political commitment. I avoided going out." Prosecutors consider the threats aggravated by their connection to Broström's political role. Alongside the death threats, the accused and an accomplice face charges for assaulting a man with a hammer.

The threats followed the political debate surrounding repatriation, with the Left Party standing against the government's initiative. Broström believes the timing and content point clearly to his political stance as the motivation for the harassment.

This case highlights ongoing tensions between far-right extremist groups like NMR and leftist politicians in Sweden, raising concerns over safety and the limits of political expression.
