Nikolaj Majorov Makes History as Sweden’s First Dual Discipline Olympic Figure Skater, Advances to Ice Dance Final

At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Swedish figure skater Nikolaj Majorov achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Swedish athlete to compete in both men’s singles and ice dance disciplines. Partnered with Milla Ruud Reitan, Majorov helped Sweden secure its first-ever Olympic final qualification in ice dance.

Majorov and Ruud Reitan impressed at the Milano Ice Skating Arena, scoring 67.31 points in the rhythmic dance, performing to a medley of Ricky Martin hits. Their performance earned them 19th place out of 23 pairs, enough to place them among the top 20 who advanced to the final scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Majorov, competing in his second Olympics after participating in men’s singles at the 2022 Games, expressed amazement: "It is completely unreal. I might faint soon." Ruud Reitan, making her Olympic debut, recounted the emotional moment they learned of their advancement, saying, "Tears just flowed."

This qualification marks a significant breakthrough for Swedish figure skating, as the pair surpassed previous national bests in European and World Championships. Though Majorov acknowledged the duo does not expect to medal, he emphasized the pride this achievement brings to Swedish figure skating, calling it an "invisible medal."

Their final performance coincides with a Swedish hockey match, but the pair encouraged fans to enjoy both events by tuning in during intermissions. The milestone cements Majorov’s unique role in Swedish winter sports and opens a new chapter for Sweden’s presence in Olympic ice dance.
