New Smart Security Tech Launches to Combat Outboard Motor Thefts in Sweden

Sweden faced a significant surge in outboard motor thefts in 2024, with over 1,000 units stolen and losses totaling 125 million kronor, primarily by organized groups targeting marinas in winter. To address this, Monimoto introduced the Monimoto 9, a wireless security device designed specifically for boat engines. Building on its success with motorcycle owners across Europe—selling more than 10,000 units in 2025—the Monimoto 9 offers discreet protection by being compact and easily hidden within the engine cover.

The device features a key fob that disables the alarm when near the owner. If the engine is moved without the fob, the system immediately alerts the owner via phone and activates GPS tracking, facilitating quick recovery. The Monimoto 9 is built to endure Nordic weather, boasting an IP68 certification for dust and water resistance and a battery life lasting up to 12 months. It operates globally using an embedded eSIM.

Priced at approximately €169, the device includes a mobile app for hassle-free installation and comes with a two-month subscription, after which an annual fee of €39 applies to maintain connectivity. This smart technology aims to provide boat owners in Sweden with a reliable defense against the growing threat of theft, ensuring peace of mind and better security for their valuable equipment.
