New Interdisciplinary Research Hub Launched to Strengthen Legal Frameworks in Swedish Healthcare

A new research initiative, Fokusmiljön i hälsorätt, has been established in Sweden to advance legal security, equality, and safety within healthcare. This multidisciplinary research environment unites 17 experts from diverse fields such as labor law, public law, medical ethics, and social work, representing Stockholm University, Lund University, and the Karolinska Institute. The project is led by senior researcher Kavot and doctoral student Denniz Sabo.

The initiative follows a structured three-phase plan: an initial strategic phase to prioritize research questions, a second phase focused on developing and submitting detailed research applications, and a final phase for project implementation with findings communicated to academia, policymakers, and the broader public. A key short-term focus includes investigating the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare and addressing children’s rights to health.

The overarching aim is to create clearer legal frameworks and enhance knowledge to support decision-makers, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and sustainable healthcare system in Sweden. The project emphasizes fundamental principles such as legal security, equality in healthcare delivery, and oversight. Kavot underscores the platform's strategic importance in respecting patient rights and ensuring accountability, leveraging the interdisciplinary strengths of its researchers to tackle complex healthcare challenges.

By fostering collaboration across legal and ethical domains, the Fokusmiljön i hälsorätt seeks to generate research with significant societal relevance, improving the safety and quality of care while supporting the right to the best possible health for all citizens.
