In a tightly contested match at the Europe Smash tournament in Malmö, Swedish table tennis players Truls Möregårdh and Anton Källberg were eliminated from the doubles event by the top-ranked South Korean duo of An Jae-Hyun and Lim Jong-Hoon. The Swedish pair began strong, taking the lead early in the first set before losing momentum and ultimately dropping ten consecutive points, resulting in an 11-8 loss for the set.
Although Möregårdh and Källberg showed resilience in the second set, coming back from a 1-7 deficit to win the set 11-8, they struggled to maintain momentum. They ultimately lost the match 3-1 in sets, with scores of 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, and 13-11. Jan-Ove Waldner, an expert at SVT, highlighted the match's close scores, stating, "It was completely okay and there are small margins, which is evident from the scores. It could have been 3-1 to Truls and Anton."
Despite this disappointment in doubles, Möregårdh advances to the singles competition, where he is set to face Japan's Sora Matsushima later today. Alongside the men's duo, Linda Bergström, competing in women's singles, faced world number eight Mima Ito, losing her match decisively with a score of 3-0.
