Moderaterna Widens Lead Over Sverigedemokraterna Amid Shifting Swedish Voter Support

Recent polling data reveals that the Moderaterna party has strengthened its position as the leading right-wing party in Sweden, extending its lead over Sverigedemokraterna (SD) to five percentage points. According to the latest DN/Ipsos voter barometer and additional polling reported by Svenska Dagbladet, Moderaterna's support has risen to 22%, marking its highest level in six years and up from 19.9% on election day. In contrast, Sverigedemokraterna's support has dropped to 17%, its lowest in eight years. This represents a notable political shift since the 2022 election when SD was the largest right-wing party. The decline in Sverigedemokraterna's support appears linked to a corresponding drop in support for the Liberalerna, which has weakened substantially, now hovering close to the critical 4% electoral threshold needed to remain in parliament. Political negotiations among Socialdemokraterna, Vänsterpartiet, Centerpartiet, and Miljöpartiet have stalled, with the exploratory efforts of Magdalena Andersson halted after the Vänsterpartiet chose not to support the proposed candidate for speaker.
