Moderaterna Challenges Polling Institutes Over Repeated Underestimation

Following a better-than-expected result in the latest election where Moderaterna secured 19.9% of the vote, an increase from 19.1% previously, the party has raised serious concerns about systematic underestimation by opinion polls. Martin Borgs, deputy secretary of Moderaterna, criticized polling institutes for consistently undervaluing the party's support during election campaigns, highlighting a recent SVT/Verian poll that showed only 15.8% backing for Moderaterna, which starkly contrasted with the actual result.

Borgs emphasized the impact this underestimation has on media reporting, which he says often portrays the party as weaker than it truly is. Expressing skepticism about pre-election polling accuracy, he announced plans to convene a meeting with representatives from all opinion institutes to investigate how Moderaterna has been underestimated in three consecutive elections during campaign periods. Borgs also questioned whether the Liberals would have crossed the electoral threshold without the influence of such polls, suggesting broader implications for election perceptions.
