Mikael "Greken" Tenezos Returns to Sweden After Arrest in Mexico

Mikael "Greken" Tenezos, a prominent 27-year-old leader of the Dalennätverket gang, has returned to Sweden following his arrest in Cancún, Mexico. The Swedish Prosecutor's Office confirmed that Tenezos was flown back to Sweden on a private jet early Thursday morning. He was apprehended by Mexican authorities on a highway between Cancún and Mérida alongside another individual despite the absence of an extradition treaty between Sweden and Mexico. According to Mexican officials, Tenezos was extradited to Sweden, where he faces allegations of multiple serious crimes.

Interpol had been seeking Tenezos internationally, and both the Sundsvall and Södertälje District Courts had detained him in absentia. Since residing in Mexico for nearly three years, Tenezos is believed to have continued orchestrating criminal operations remotely, especially amidst a violent gang conflict that escalated in 2023 involving the Dalennätverket and rival gangs like the Foxtrot network.

Under Tenezos’s leadership, Dalennätverket has evolved from a minor group into one of Sweden's largest criminal organizations, heavily involved in drug trafficking and violent crimes, with Gävle now serving as a central hub for their activities in northern Sweden. His return to Sweden is a significant development in law enforcement efforts to address organized crime affecting the country.

The arrest and extradition mark a critical step in Sweden’s crackdown on serious crime networks with international reach, reflecting close cooperation despite diplomatic challenges.
