Midsummer Fire in Märsta Leaves Over 40 Residents Homeless Amid Community Support Efforts

A devastating fire broke out in a multi-family building in Märsta on Midsummer's Eve, June 20, 2026, displacing over 40 residents and causing extensive damage. Among those affected is Thamer Naser, who was asleep in his taxi after a night shift when a neighbor urgently alerted him to escape the smoke-filled room. Describing the chaos, Naser recalled, "I went out with nothing and now we can't go back in," highlighting the suddenness and severity of the incident.

The fire engulfed the roof of the building and forced a large-scale evacuation. The Sigtuna municipality quickly responded by providing temporary accommodation, prioritizing residents without home insurance.
