Marian Studenic Suspended from 2025 Winter Olympics by Slovak Federation

Marian Studenic, the forward for Färjestad in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), has been suspended from participating in the 2025 Winter Olympics in Milan. The suspension, imposed by the Slovakian national federation, stems from Studenic's departure from the Slovak Olympic qualifying team earlier this summer due to dissatisfaction with his assigned role. Slovak national team coach Vladimir Orzagh commented on the situation, stating, "He has put himself in a difficult situation," highlighting how Studenic's exit disrupted the team's preparations.

Previously, Studenic enjoyed a stellar season with Färjestad, scoring 49 points (18 goals and 31 assists) over 56 games. However, his current season has been less productive, tallying only 8 points (1 goal and 7 assists) in 16 games while going 11 games without a goal. The suspension extends through the Olympic Games, but Studenic remains eligible for Slovakia's World Championship team slated for May in Switzerland.

In contrast, Adam Ruzicka, another Slovak forward playing for Spartak Moscow in the KHL, remains a candidate for Olympic selection despite past off-ice controversies, including his release from the NHL's Calgary Flames over a cocaine-related incident. Coach Orzagh differentiated the two cases by noting that while Studenic's decision negatively affected the team, Ruzicka's issues primarily impacted himself.

This disciplinary move illustrates the Slovak federation's firm stance on team commitment and discipline ahead of the Olympics. Studenic's absence marks a significant change for Slovakia's roster in Milan and underscores the challenges the national team faces in assembling its Olympic squad.
