Marcus Berg and Oscar Wendt Extend Their Commitment to IFK Göteborg through 2026

IFK Göteborg has secured the continued involvement of club icons Marcus Berg and Oscar Wendt by extending their contracts until 2026. Berg, 39, who retired from professional football in 2023, is embarking on his third season as part of the club's coaching staff. Wendt, 40, who ended his playing career in 2024, is entering his second year working with the sports management team, focusing on player development especially among the younger squad members.

Berg expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the team's growth, saying, "We took great steps as a team last season, and now I want to be part of that development." Wendt emphasized his enjoyment working closely with the players and highlighted the value of his experience to the club's future, which Sportchef Hannes Stiller also supported, noting Wendt's role will be crucial in squad development.

Currently, IFK Göteborg is in a week-long training camp in Murcia, Spain, preparing for the upcoming season. They plan a second camp in Portugal from January 29 to February 7, including participation in the Algarve Cup and matches against Rosenborg and Czech side Artis Brno. These preparations align with the club's strategic efforts to build on last season's progress and strengthen the team through both established leadership and new tactical approaches.
