Malmö Redhawks' Patrik Norén Faces Long-Term Injury, Season Likely Over

Patrik Norén, the 33-year-old defenseman for Malmö Redhawks, is set to miss a significant part of the 2025 SHL season due to a long-term injury requiring surgery. After joining Malmö in April on a two-year contract, Norén has played only four matches before re-injuring himself in October against Djurgården. The injury is reminiscent of a previous head injury he suffered while with Leksand, where he spent the majority of his career and accumulated 364 SHL appearances.

Following the injury sustained in September during a match against Leksand, Norén underwent a planned operation and is now expected to be sidelined for three to six months. This recovery timeline effectively rules him out for the rest of the season, as confirmed by the club’s official statement. Although there remains a slight chance he could return during rehabilitation, it is currently considered highly unlikely.

Norén initially suffered a head injury in his third match of the season, causing a two-week absence before returning on October 4, but was forced to leave that game early due to a similar injury. The club has confirmed that he has been resting for nearly three months and will now embark on a lengthy rehabilitation process. He has one year left on his contract with Malmö Redhawks.

This injury setback is significant for Malmö, as Norén was brought in to lend his experience and leadership to the team's defense. His prolonged absence will thus impact Malmö's defensive lineup as they continue through the season without one of their seasoned players.
