Three employees of Malmö municipality have lost their jobs following an investigation into fraudulent claims related to their assistance of a severely disabled person who was supposed to stay in Ghana. The investigation was initiated after suspicions arose regarding the personal assistants' actual presence in Ghana during the trip, which was officially arranged by the municipality.
The situation took a turn when the disabled individual reported to the municipality that none of the assistants had traveled to Ghana as promised. One assistant claimed that logistical issues had prevented their trip, while another had falsely communicated about being in Ghana, even sending a text stating, "We are at the market, the user is doing well." Upon learning this, the municipality took decisive action.
Following these revelations, two assistants resigned on the same day they were confronted about the discrepancies, while the third was dismissed for a significant breach of contract. Malin Hansson, the HR manager for the disability support department, called the behavior "very serious" and confirmed that a police report has been filed. The municipality is also seeking the repayment of approximately 450,000 SEK in wages that the assistants received without actually providing the required support to the disabled individual.
