Major Garage Fire in Haninge Causes Structural Collapse and Disrupts Water Supply

On the evening of April 30, 2026, a significant fire broke out in a garage in Handen, Haninge, south of Stockholm. The fire department received the alarm around 18:30, and emergency services, including firefighters, ambulances, and police, promptly responded to the scene. Fire Chief Ilham Demir confirmed that while the fire had been somewhat contained with no risk of spreading further, several vehicles remained trapped inside the garage. To better access the flames, firefighters awaited a crane to remove the garage roof. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The firefighting efforts have affected the local water supply, causing residents nearby to experience reduced water pressure. Chief Demir advised those affected by smoke to turn off their ventilation systems to reduce indoor discomfort.
