Magdalena Andersson Proposes Ten-Year Cross-Party Pact with Moderaterna to Tackle Gang Crime

Magdalena Andersson, leader of the Socialdemokraterna party, has called for a landmark ten-year bipartisan agreement with the Moderaterna party to combat gang crime in Sweden. Announced in a December 6, 2025 press conference in Kärrtorp, Stockholm, the proposal aims to create a stable, long-term reform agenda to prevent the recruitment of new gang members and address persistent gang violence.

Andersson cited Denmark as a successful model for such an approach, pointing to their effective strategies in curbing gang-related issues. She emphasized the necessity of a cooperative effort between Socialdemokraterna and Moderaterna, comparing the proposed agreement’s cross-party collaboration to the existing bipartisan support seen in Sweden’s defense policy.

The Social Democrat leader highlighted the current Swedish government’s achievements so far in hardening penalties, increasing police staffing, and enhancing the justice system, but stressed that these measures alone are insufficient. The proposed pact would go beyond current efforts to build a comprehensive, decade-long plan to dismantle gang networks.

Andersson also underlined the importance of inclusivity by stating that other political parties would not be excluded from participating in this coalition, reinforcing the need for broad political consensus and durable stability in tackling Sweden's gang crime problem.
