Magdalena Andersson Commits to a 50-Year Plan for Strengthening Sweden's Defense

Sweden's Social Democratic Party leader Magdalena Andersson has pledged a long-term, 50-year commitment to significantly strengthen the country's defense capabilities in response to escalating security threats, particularly from Russia. Speaking at the Swedish Defence University in Stockholm, Andersson emphasized that the defense strategy must remain consistent across generations to ensure Sweden never loses control over its military readiness again.

Andersson highlighted the drastic reductions in Sweden's military and civil defense following the fall of the Berlin Wall and stressed the importance of rebuilding and expanding Sweden’s army. Her vision includes increasing the number of brigades and substantially raising the number of conscripted soldiers to bolster national security. "We need to keep this course for several generations," she asserted, underscoring that defense investments cannot be temporary.

Acknowledging that the cost of military upgrades will be high, Andersson stated it is "totally worth it" to invest in defense, emphasizing that Sweden must not lower its guard against potential threats from Russia.
