Lovisa Karlsson Faces Setback After Sustaining Injury

Lovisa Karlsson, a promising athlete in Swedish multi-events, will miss significant competitions due to an injury she sustained during the recent Swedish multi-event championships in Karlstad. Despite finishing second in the event, Karlsson suffered a fracture but continued to compete, ultimately seeking medical attention only afterward. Her coach, Nadja Casadei, revealed that Karlsson felt foolish for not stopping sooner, highlighting how competitive moments can cloud athletes’ judgment about pain and injury.

As a consequence of her injury, Karlsson will not participate in the upcoming Finnkampen nor have the opportunity to qualify for the World Championships in Tokyo, which begins on September 13. Casadei expressed disappointment over the situation, especially since Karlsson was in good form and positioned well for a qualifying attempt. However, she acknowledged that if there was a time for such an injury to occur, it may be fortunate that it happened now, as they had aimed for a transitional year before looking to advance significantly the following season.
