Local Politicians Engage with High School Students Ahead of Elections in Härnösand and Karlskrona

In the lead-up to the upcoming elections, local politicians in Härnösand and Karlskrona engaged directly with high school students, fostering political understanding and encouraging youth participation. In Härnösand, students from the Healthcare and Care Program experienced a "speed dating" format where they spent about ten minutes meeting representatives from all eight municipal council parties. The event concluded with a panel debate allowing students to pose questions, which helped clarify political positions beyond social media narratives. Students Emma Pettersson and Iza Brandt shared that the interaction solidified their voting preferences while broadening their perspectives on other parties.

Meanwhile, students at af Chapmangymnasiet in Karlskrona also had the chance to discuss and question politicians. Seventeen-year-old Adam Jensen emphasized the importance of youth involvement in politics, saying, "It is important that we as young people are part of the political discourse." The event included debates and information sessions on how parliamentary elections influence EU politics, further enriching students’ political awareness. Both events highlight a commitment to educating and motivating young voters through direct engagement with elected officials.
