Linda Sembrant Announces Retirement from Swedish National Football Team After 17 Years

Linda Sembrant, the veteran defender of the Swedish national football team, has announced her retirement after a distinguished 17-year international career. With a remarkable 158 caps and 19 goals for Sweden, Sembrant ends her tenure having won four championship medals, including three FIFA World Cup bronze medals and two Olympic silver medals.

Sembrant, who debuted for the national team in 2008, described her decision as the toughest she has ever faced but expressed pride and gratitude for her years with the team. In her farewell statement, she reflected, "The national team has been my life for so long, and it is a life I have loved living. Now I close that door and pass the baton, it feels nice." Currently, the national team is preparing for two Nations League bronze matches against France in Portugal.

Swedish national team coach Tony Gustavsson praised Sembrant's professionalism and dedication, emphasizing the legacy she leaves behind within the squad. Marika Domanski Lyfors, former head coach and current senior advisor, highlighted Sembrant's outstanding consistency and leadership, saying, "Her greatness has been performing at her best in all situations."
