Liberalerna Rules Out Sweden Democrats from Government Roles Following 2025 Election

At their recent landsmöte in Karlstad, the Swedish Liberal Party (Liberalerna) officially decided to exclude the Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna, SD) from any ministerial posts or direct participation in the government formed after the 2025 election. This decisive resolution came after a vigorous debate involving over 70 speakers, highlighting the party's internal divisions on the issue.

Simona Mohamsson led the faction advocating against SD's inclusion in the government, ultimately securing the party's vote to deny SD ministerial positions. Despite differing opinions within Liberalerna, party secretary Fredrik Brange affirmed that the party will focus on substantive policy issues moving forward.

Brange also expressed confidence in maintaining a coalition government with the Moderates and Christian Democrats, with the Sweden Democrats providing parliamentary support but no direct governmental roles.
