Leo Carlsson Shines with Two Goals and an Assist in NHL Overtime Victory

Swedish hockey star Leo Carlsson continued his impressive NHL season by scoring two goals and assisting on the game-winning overtime goal in the Anaheim Ducks' 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. This performance extended Carlsson's points streak to nine consecutive games, boosting his season tally to 23 points in 14 games, placing him second in the NHL scoring race, just behind Nathan MacKinnon.

Carlsson's scoring display included two goals within six minutes during the second period, featuring a backhand shot and a quick release from the right circle, underscoring his elite skillset. His assist in overtime to defenseman Jacob Trouba secured Anaheim’s sixth consecutive win, signaling the Ducks' rising status as contenders after several rough seasons. 

Acknowledging Carlsson's breakthrough, Ducks coach Joel Quenneville praised him for his leadership and remarkable progress, saying Carlsson is “in complete control” and has “taken big steps,” effectively putting on a show early in the 2025 NHL season. Carlsson expressed confidence in the team’s momentum, stating they feel like true contenders this year.

In contrast, Vegas Golden Knights faced setbacks as William Karlsson, who assisted on an early goal, left the game due to injury after the first period. Coach Bruce Cassidy was uncertain about Karlsson's status going forward.

Carlsson's prolific scoring pace—which includes eight goals and 15 assists overall—has seen comparisons to Elias Pettersson’s acclaimed rookie season in 2018. Currently leading the Swedish scoring leaderboard, Carlsson exemplifies a new wave of Swedish talent making a major impact in the NHL’s 2025 season.
