Left Party Politician Resigns After Drone Flight Incident at Landvetter Airport

Anton Karlsson, a local politician from the Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) in Alingsås, has resigned from his position in the municipal technical committee following charges related to flying a drone over Landvetter Airport. Karlsson admits to the drone flight but denies that his actions were criminal, arguing that they were necessary in light of the ongoing climate crisis.

Karlsson planned the drone flight as a form of protest intended to disrupt air traffic at the airport, stating, "We had planned this for a long time, to try to disrupt air traffic by flying a drone at the airport." After conducting the drone flight, he and a companion waited nearby for security personnel while having coffee.

The prosecutor contends that Karlsson's drone flight constituted a violation of aviation laws and a security risk, charging him with offenses including unauthorized access to a protected area. However, Karlsson disputes this, emphasizing that the real risk is the climate emergency and framing his actions as an act of civil disobedience.
