Large-Scale Bribery Probe Hits Stockholm Public Transport Officials

Stockholm Public Transport (SL) is embroiled in a serious bribery investigation involving multiple employees and officials. Prosecutor Arne Fors from the National Anti-Corruption Unit confirmed that at least five suspects, including three employees from the Region Stockholm traffic administration, are implicated in receiving bribes totaling around 15 million kronor. One SL official is specifically suspected of accepting over 8 million kronor in bribes, with payments allegedly routed through foreign bank accounts.

The suspected offenses occurred between January 2023 and December 2024. The investigation intensified last week when police raids were executed at several locations, resulting in two individuals being detained on probable cause. Additionally, a businessman has been taken into custody for allegedly providing the bribes via his company to secure public transport contracts.

This extensive probe highlights significant corruption risks within Stockholm's public transport administration, with substantial sums involved across several suspects. Authorities continue their efforts to uncover all details and hold those responsible accountable.
