Jim Gottfridsson Returns to IFK Ystad, Rejoining Swedish Handball

Jim Gottfridsson, a celebrated figure in Swedish handball, has officially returned to his hometown club IFK Ystad, marking his re-entry into Swedish league handball. After a distinguished international career, including twelve seasons with Germany's SG Flensburg-Handewitt and a recent stint at Hungary's Pick Szeged, Gottfridsson has signed a three-year contract with IFK Ystad, which competes in the Swedish second division, Allsvenskan.

The move comes after Gottfridsson's departure from Pick Szeged earlier this year, following which all legal proceedings regarding his dismissal were settled. Despite receiving offers from elite clubs across Sweden, Denmark, and Germany, Gottfridsson expressed a strong ambition to contribute to IFK Ystad's resurgence and to give back to Swedish handball, emphasizing the decision felt right when the opportunity arose to return home.

At 33 years old, Gottfridsson brings a wealth of experience to IFK Ystad, having earned 190 international caps and scored 553 goals for Sweden. His pivotal role in Sweden’s triumph at the 2022 European Championship, where the national team secured gold, underscores his status as one of the country's top players.
