Isabelle Haak Prepares for World Championship: Embracing Imperfection

As the 2025 Volleyball World Championship approaches, Swedish star Isabelle Haak is reflecting on her journey towards mental and physical readiness. Following a challenging period of burnout syndrome due to her rigorous playing schedule with Conegliano and the national team, Haak shares that she is now in a much better state. She emphasizes, “It’s okay not to be perfect,” highlighting her newfound understanding of self-acceptance and balance in life.

The Swedish team, gearing up for their inaugural World Championship participation, is currently training in Halmstad before heading to Korea for preparatory matches. Haak's mental health has also been positively influenced by collaboration with a psychologist, enabling her to manage pressures more effectively.

Reflecting on the upcoming tournament, Haak expressed optimism about their chances, particularly as the Swedish group is deemed manageable, which could lead them to advance through the knockout stages. Coach Lorenzo Micelli echoes this sentiment, stressing a collective team effort and the necessity for Haak to share the weight of expectations, affirming that confidence is crucial as they head into competition on August 22 against the Netherlands. The European Volleyball Confederation has made strides in addressing match scheduling to combat player fatigue, though Haak notes that further improvements are essential.
