Investigations Underway into Fatal Workplace Incidents in Bergvik and Gröna Lund

Two separate tragic workplace-related fatalities in early 2026 in Sweden have prompted thorough investigations and legal proceedings.

In Bergvik, Stockholm, two middle-aged men died in an accident involving a wheel loader when a tire exploded while they were working in a garage. Åse Schoultz, the prosecutor leading the preliminary investigation, confirmed that the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, with no witnesses present at the time. The police have opened an inquiry into gross negligence leading to death, but no suspects have been identified. Meanwhile, at Gröna Lund amusement park, a fatal accident on the Jetline roller coaster resulted in one woman’s death and several injuries after a support arm on a car broke during a fully loaded ride. The State Accident Investigation Board identified critical safety flaws, including negligent procurement and insufficient welding verification of the broken support arm, which was purchased from Göteborgs Mekaniska. The court has fined Göteborgs Mekaniska over 1 million SEK and imposed a total of 5 million SEK in fines after ruling that Gröna Lund staff acted negligently though not with gross negligence. The amusement park has dismantled the Jetline ride following the accident.
