Investigation Reveals Major Security Failures at Lantmäteriet, Work Still Ahead

The investigation into Lantmäteriet's information security breaches is complete, revealing significant shortcomings within the agency. Government investigator Dag Stegelund presented the findings to Housing Minister Andreas Carlson on February 13, 2026, highlighting that despite some collective efforts to improve, much work remains to be done.

The inquiry followed Expressen's 2024 exposé showing that Lantmäteriet's open archives leaked defense secrets and sensitive personal data. Former director Susanne Siv Åsberg was warned for years about these risks but delayed action.
