IFK Göteborg Aims to Extend Contracts of Key Figures Berg and Wendt

IFK Göteborg is hopeful about extending contracts with Marcus Berg and Oscar Wendt, both pivotal figures in the club's transition from playing to leadership roles. Marcus Berg, 39, retired from playing in 2023 and now serves as assistant coach, focusing on set pieces and offensive players. Oscar Wendt, 40, who retired after the 2024 season, has taken on the position of assistant sports manager and contributes as part of the scouting team. Sports manager Hannes Stiller remarked that while no agreements are finalized, ongoing dialogue has taken place regarding contract extensions, expressing optimism about their continued involvement with the club.

Additionally, IFK Göteborg scout David Vukovic recently declined an offer to become sports manager at Västerås SK, signaling the club's stability in retaining key staff members. The team is preparing for the 2026 season, with preseason training beginning January 5, 2026, and training camps scheduled in Murcia, Spain, as well as Portugal. The squad will participate in the Algarve Cup and face opponents including Rosenborg and Artis Brno.
