Icy Roads Cause Multiple Traffic Accidents Across Skåne on Monday Morning

On Monday morning, several traffic accidents occurred throughout Skåne due to hazardous icy road conditions following a transition from rain to freezing temperatures. Police were alerted to numerous incidents as drivers struggled with the slippery surfaces. Filip Annas, a police spokesperson, emphasized the importance of adjusting driving speeds to match the dangerous weather conditions. The icy roads extended over most of Skåne, except the far western areas where temperatures stayed above freezing.

Linus Falk from SMHI explained that although temperatures were expected to rise above freezing later in the afternoon, there was a significant risk of refreezing by evening, which could worsen driving conditions. While winter tires are not legally required in Sweden, Annas strongly recommended that drivers equip their vehicles with them during such cold spells to improve safety.

These warnings come amid heightened awareness of the risks posed by early winter conditions on regional transport.
