Iconic Hockey Polo Shirt Returns to SHL for 50th Anniversary

The Swedish Hockey League (SHL) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the nostalgic return of the classic hockey polo shirt, thanks to the revival of Trygg-Hansa as a sponsor. The excitement kicked off when all 14 head coaches donned the iconic polo during the season's launching event. Notable figures like Tommy Samuelsson, now coaching Timrå IK, expressed his delight at wearing the shirt again after many years, humorously noting, "I had not expected to wear it again; I haven’t saved any in my wardrobe."

Johan Hedberg, Leksand's new head coach and a first-time wearer of the polo, shared his thoughts on the tradition, reflecting on the nostalgia it brings, saying, "It was a bit nostalgic to put it on." He emphasized that while they aim to feature the polo this season, final decisions hinge on sponsorship nuances.

SHL CEO Jenny Silfverstrand remarked on Trygg-Hansa's expertise and commitment, underscoring the sponsor's historical ties to the league, which adds to the emotional significance of the polo's comeback. The new hockey season starts on September 13, just ahead of the polo’s reintroduction, marking a sentimental win for fans and players alike.
