Hospital Employee Dismissed Amid Suspected Poisoning Case at Akademiska Sjukhuset

A woman in her 60s, employed at Akademiska sjukhuset's children's hospital in Uppsala, has been dismissed following suspicions that she poisoned four colleagues last autumn. The incidents, which took place between October and November, led to the affected employees requiring intensive care. The woman was arrested in December on suspicion of serious assault but was released after about a month due to insufficient evidence. Despite her release, the hospital initially suspended her and has now officially terminated her employment. The ongoing investigation has not yet resulted in any formal charges against her.

Her lawyer, Stefan Wallin, criticized the hospital's decision to dismiss her as "surprising and cowardly," emphasizing that she has not been charged or convicted of any crime. He also expressed concern for his client's distress over the situation. Prosecutors confirm that the woman remains a suspect, but no charges have been filed. The hospital has taken this disciplinary action amid the serious allegations to ensure workplace safety, but the lack of formal accusations highlights the complexity of balancing legal due process and institutional responsibility.
