Henrik Harlaut Suffers Concussion in Training, Withdraws from Olympic Slopestyle Qualifiers

Swedish freestyle skier Henrik Harlaut has suffered a concussion during training on the Olympic course ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics competitions. The injury occurred Friday as Harlaut attempted a trick on a rail but crashed and hit his head on the ground. According to his team coach Oscar Wester, Harlaut immediately suspected a concussion, which was later confirmed by the Swedish Olympic Committee's (SOK) team doctor, Jakob Swanberg.

As a consequence, Harlaut will miss the slopestyle qualifiers scheduled for Saturday. The medical team is concentrating on his recovery with the hope that he might still participate in the big air competition slated for February 15. Despite the severity of the injury, Harlaut was able to descend the slope without assistance and returned to his hotel for further medical evaluation.

Dr. Swanberg expressed concern over Harlaut's condition, describing the outlook as bleak but emphasizing that nothing is ruled out regarding his potential return to competition. The concussion marks a heavy setback for Harlaut, especially as he recently returned to competition after a lengthy injury break. Coach Wester expressed disappointment, noting that the incident should never have happened.

The Swedish athlete, a medal hopeful, now faces an uncertain path as his focus shifts entirely to recovery. His withdrawal from the slopestyle event is confirmed, but the team remains cautiously optimistic about his chances for the big air event next week.
