GoCo Active Lab Opens in Gothenburg as Hub for Innovative Health and Rehabilitation Solutions

On August 24, Gothenburg unveiled the GoCo Active Lab, a pioneering 12,000-square-meter facility designed to foster collaboration between businesses, research entities, healthcare providers, and sports organizations to advance health innovations.

The lab is divided into two main sections: one dedicated to active training and rehabilitation, and the other focusing on research and innovation. The active section houses Medley’s new training facility featuring a gym, group exercise rooms, and pools (including a 25-meter pool and a rehab pool). IFK Kliniken Rehab will operate a clinic specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine adjacent to Medley. Together, they aim to promote sustainable physical activity and integrate clinical practice with cutting-edge research.

The upcoming fall opening will introduce the second part of the building, hosting research labs and offices for tenants like CCRM Nordic and local universities. This collaborative environment is intended to shorten the time from research to practical health applications while promoting public health in the Gothenburg region.

Vectura's development stresses sustainability, achieving LEED Gold certification and WELL Platinum standards emphasizing health and well-being. Douglas Haeger-Carlén from Vectura highlighted the project’s goal to position Gothenburg as a leader in health innovation. Former elite athlete Henrik Lundqvist underscored the critical link between sports and research for an active lifestyle.

With 200 jobs created and a multifunctional restaurant accommodating up to 400 guests (convertible into conference space for 500), GoCo Active Lab represents a significant step forward in combining health, sports, and research in Sweden.
