Fuel Prices in Sweden Rise Amid Surge in North Sea Oil Costs

Several fuel chains in Sweden have announced price increases for gasoline and diesel, driven by the global surge in oil prices exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Effective Thursday, the price of gasoline will increase by 40 öre per liter, reaching approximately 15.80 kronor per liter for private customers. Diesel prices will rise even more sharply, increasing by 55 öre per liter to about 20.20 kronor per liter.

This adjustment follows the price of North Sea oil exceeding 90 dollars per barrel recently, directly influencing pump prices in Sweden. Prior to the conflict starting on February 28, gasoline prices were around 15 kronor per liter and diesel prices approximately 17 kronor per liter, marking a significant recent increase.

The ongoing geopolitical tension in the Middle East, which began on February 28, has been identified as a key factor in the rising oil prices impacting Sweden’s fuel market. These hikes raise costs for Swedish consumers relying on petrol and diesel for transport and daily activities.

According to reports from Svenska Dagbladet, the fuel price increases reflect broader global economic pressures, highlighting the sensitivity of Sweden’s fuel market to international oil price developments.
