Fredrik Lindström Returns to Sports as a Doctor for Junior Skiers

Fredrik Lindström, the Olympic gold medalist renowned for his success in biathlon, is making a significant return to the sports realm, this time as a medical doctor for Sweden's junior cross-country skiing team. After retiring from competitive sports in 2019 to pursue a career in medicine, Lindström graduated as a doctor in June 2023 and is now set to apply his extensive knowledge and experience to support young athletes.

At 36 years old, he expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, "It feels really fun and inspiring. Now I get to use both my experiences from my elite career and the medical knowledge I have been working on lately." Lindström has also taken additional courses in sports medicine, ensuring he is well-prepared to address the specific health challenges faced by athletes.

He will balance his responsibilities with the junior team alongside his internship at Örnsköldsvik Hospital. His unique background, which includes winning gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics and two bronze medals at the World Championships, positions him to offer invaluable insights into the lives of junior skiers. Lindström is also open to assisting the team with logistical matters during competitions, illustrating his commitment to their development.
Team manager Anders Byström noted the benefits of Lindström's dual expertise in sports and medicine, describing it as a significant asset for the junior team.
