Former Umeå Youth Leader Sentenced to Two Years for Severe Child Exploitation Crimes

A man in his 50s, formerly a youth leader in Umeå, has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Umeå District Court for serious child pornography offenses. The conviction follows an investigation revealing nearly 6,000 files of abusive material on his computer, including 1,146 images and 720 videos that depicted particularly heinous sexual abuse of children, including infants. Among the most disturbing content were videos totaling 42 hours showing severe sexual abuse.

The case was initiated after authorities received reports of child pornography being shared, which led police to trace the activity through an IP address linked to the accused. The investigation uncovered that the man secretly filmed naked children changing in tents during youth camp activities; this material dated back more than ten years.

Besides the prison sentence, the court ordered the defendant to pay 1,000 kronor to the Crime Victim Fund as part of the judgment.

This case highlights the grave nature of exploitation within trusted community roles and underscores the commitment of Swedish law enforcement to combat child abuse. The severity of the images and videos was a significant factor in the harsh sentencing.
