Fatal Wrong-Way Head-On Collision on E20 Near Partille Claims Two Lives

A devastating traffic accident occurred late Saturday evening on the E20 highway near Partille, east of Gothenburg, involving a car driving in the wrong direction that resulted in two fatalities. Authorities were alerted around 21:14 when reports came in of a vehicle traveling against traffic on the highway near Partillemotet. Within minutes, the wrong-way driver collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, leading to a fatal crash.

According to police spokesperson Adam Samara of the West police region, the reckless driving had begun near Falutorget in central Gothenburg and continued until the collision on the E20 between Partillemotet and Skulltorpsmotet. Witnesses, including a taxi passenger named Svea, described a terrifying encounter where the wrong-way vehicle first struck their taxi before the deadly head-on crash occurred. Although the taxi passengers were unharmed, the impact of the collisions was severe.

Two individuals injured in the crash were immediately transported to hospital but were pronounced dead by Sunday morning. Both victims were confirmed not to be Swedish residents, complicating the notification process for their relatives. The police have launched an investigation on suspicion of gross negligence in traffic, focusing on the dangerous wrong-way driving.

The E20 was closed following the accident and reopened around midnight after clearance. The tragedy has stirred sorrow and highlighted serious concerns about road safety on major highways near Gothenburg.
