Ependion Expands Growth Strategy Through Acquisitions and Technological Investments

Ependion, a Swedish company specializing in digital solutions for industrial applications, is advancing its growth strategy with a focus on both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. The company has set ambitious targets, aiming for at least 10% annual organic growth driven by global megatrends such as digitalization, electrification, and sustainability. Recently, Ependion intensified its position in the energy sector by acquiring the German company Welotec, which enhances its capabilities in secure data communication and control systems relevant for power grids.

Ependion operates through two main business units: Westermo and Beijer Electronics. Westermo leads in onboard communication networks for trains and has seen growth thanks to new cybersecurity regulations. Its initiatives are grounded in the increasing demand for secure communication in infrastructure sectors. Beijer Electronics, focusing on Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) in marine applications, is steering its strategy towards sustainability, emphasizing significant investments in next-generation technology. CEO Jenny Sjödahl referred to these advancements as "the best on the market," highlighting the company's commitment to meeting client needs in their digital transitions.

With a global footprint across 21 countries and production facilities on multiple continents, Ependion is positioning itself to capitalize on less cyclical market segments. The company’s growth efforts, including the establishment of a unit in India, aim to leverage structural shifts in technology and infrastructure modernization. Sjödahl asserts that the overarching goal is to contribute to a more sustainable and secure future for all stakeholders involved in their digital journeys.
