Elvira Öberg Triumphs in Oberhof Pursuit, Becomes Sweden's Second Most Successful Biathlete

Elvira Öberg clinched victory in the pursuit race at the Oberhof biathlon competition, solidifying her position as Sweden's second most successful biathlete in history. With 13 World Cup wins under her belt, she now surpasses Helena Ekholm while trailing only Magdalena Forsberg, who boasts a record 42 victories. Öberg demonstrated precision and resilience during the race, missing just one shot out of 20 and excelling especially in the standing shooting stages, which helped her maintain and extend her lead.

Her sister, Hanna Öberg, also impressed with a strong performance. Starting from 13th place, Hanna climbed ten positions to finish third, marking the fourth occasion the Öberg sisters shared a World Cup podium. The race was fiercely competitive, with Finland’s Suvi Minkkinen finishing second.

Elvira expressed pride in her execution, noting, "It was tough... but I'm incredibly proud of how I executed this competition and that I managed to hit all my shots in standing in that situation." Hanna added, "It was fun to put together a good biathlon race."

The weekend also featured a standout performance in the men's relay by Sebastian Samuelsson, who secured a third-place finish for Sweden. As the spotlight turns toward the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milano and Cortina starting February 6, 2026, Swedish biathlon showcases a strong roster and promising form.

This latest victory emphasizes Elvira Öberg's rising legacy, ranking her among Sweden's top biathletes, alongside notable athletes such as Helena Ekholm, Hanna Öberg, and Anna Carin Zidek, who also have distinguished competitive records.
