Elina Thorsell, a 34-year-old member of the Swedish pop group Timoteij, has revealed her recent diagnosis of breast cancer after discovering a hardening in her left breast. Thorsell expressed her shock and emotional turmoil upon receiving the diagnosis, which was confirmed as hormonal breast cancer. "I was optimistic until the moment I got the news; I never thought that at my age something like this could happen to me," she told Aftonbladet.
In light of her diagnosis, Thorsell faced the painful decision of undergoing treatment that could potentially impact her fertility, particularly as she and her boyfriend were attempting to conceive. To address this concern, she underwent a procedure to extract eggs prior to starting chemotherapy, which she described as a daunting experience.
Thorsell's treatment regimen included chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries. During these procedures, the presence of cancer in her lymph nodes was also discovered. The journey has been further complicated by her existing condition of rheumatism, resulting in significant pain. Looking ahead, she anticipates ten years of hormonal therapy and hopes to eventually pause treatment to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Through her experience, Thorsell emphasizes the importance of regular breast examinations. She described her tumor as superficial and stressed that youth is no safeguard against serious health issues. "Please, check your breasts regularly. I want others to be aware that cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age," she urged her fans.
