Election Results Reveal Shifting Political Landscape in Jämtland 2026

The 2026 election results in Jämtland show significant shifts in voter support across the region, reflecting a changing political climate. In Östersund, the Social Democrats (S) and the Christian Democrats (KD) experienced losses, while the Moderates (M), Center Party (C), and Green Party (MP) gained ground. Despite losing a mandate in Ragunda, Socialdemokraterna remains hopeful about maintaining a majority. Final results for Jämtlands län confirmed representatives for the next term, including returnees Kalle Olsson and Anna-Caren Sätherberg from the Social Democrats, and new members Elise Ryder Wikén from Moderaterna and Peter Eriksson from the Sweden Democrats (SD).

Increased support for Moderaterna was noted across several municipalities, contrasting with declines for Socialdemokraterna and Sweden Democrats in other areas. A notable incident during the election saw a person arriving at a polling station in Krokom with a hunting rifle, which required police intervention.

Young politician Rasmus Ericsson of the Christian Democrats in Krokom emphasized his dedication to improving conditions for vulnerable groups like the elderly and disabled, focusing on making the municipality safer and easier to live in. He acknowledged the challenges of securing funding but highlighted preventive strategies to reduce long-term costs.

On a national level, personal voting engagement was strong, with 24.2% of voters casting personal votes. Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson received the highest personal vote count nationally with 372,556 votes. In comparison, Moderaterna leader Ulf Kristersson garnered 76,824 personal votes, while Kristdemokraterna’s Ebba-Elisabeth Busch received 110,584 votes.
