Edvin Anger Secures Third Place Podium Finish in Ruka World Cup Mass Start

Edvin Anger, the 23-year-old Swedish cross-country skier, delivered an impressive performance in the men's mass start race at the World Cup opening weekend in Ruka, finishing third and earning his second career podium in a distance event. Anger initially took the lead alongside Austria's Mika Vermeulen, building a 13-second advantage in the two-mile freestyle race. However, with around four kilometers remaining, a chasing pack of Norwegian skiers, excluding star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, started closing in. By the final kilometer, the leaders were caught, and after a fierce sprint, Harald Östberg Amundsen from Norway claimed victory, with Edvin Hedegart coming second and Anger securing third place. Anger expressed his elation, calling the podium finish "magical," especially after a disappointing sprint race the previous day.

Meanwhile, Klæbo, a favorite chasing his 100th individual World Cup win, experienced a rare slump, finishing 15th and voicing his frustration with the result. Experts attributed his underperformance to issues with his glide during the race. Johan Ekberg was the second-best Swedish skier, finishing 21st. This strong showing by Anger highlights his rising status within the international skiing community and provides a positive note for Sweden as the World Cup season progresses.
