Ebba Busch Leads Voter Confidence as Andersson's Support Declines Ahead of Swedish Elections

A new SVT/Verian poll reveals a significant shift in voter confidence among Swedish political leaders just days before the upcoming election. Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch has surged to the top with a record 42% voter confidence, marking her highest approval yet and notable gains across the political spectrum, including left-leaning voters. In contrast, Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson’s support has dropped sharply from 45% in August to 37%, tying her with Moderate Party leader and current Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who holds steady at 38%.

The decline in Andersson’s approval is especially pronounced among red-green voters, threatening the Social Democrats' previously strong position. Conversely, smaller parties are also seeing positive trends: Liberals' leader Simona Mohamsson experienced a 10 percentage point gain, with the party’s support rising significantly from 1.9% to 5.8%, surpassing the 4% electoral threshold for the first time this term, largely pulling voters from the Sverigedemokraterna and Moderaterna. Additional gains were noted for Center Party’s Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist and Left Party’s Nooshi Dadgostar.

According to Per Söderpalm, head of opinion at Verian, while the government shows some positive momentum, predicting the election outcome remains complex as voter dynamics continue to evolve. The survey included 1,025 respondents aged 18 to 84, capturing a critical snapshot of Sweden’s political landscape just four days before voting.
